Leach lines allow water from your septic tank to leach back into the ground. These long trenches are filled with gravel and they are fed by a perforated pipe. Water flows through the pipe and leaches through the gravel and then into the ground. If your system is continuously backing up, it could be a sign that you need new leach lines.
Drain wells allow water to drain from your septic system. Drain wells are also commonly referred to as Seepage pits or Dry wells. All of these terms are referring to the same thing. Drain wells can be brick-lined or rock-filled. Drain wells are excellent for areas with limited space or areas with clay or hard pan. A septic lift station is used when a traditional gravity fed septic system is not possible. Lift stations can be used to put sewage from the house to the septic tank, or from the septic tank to the drainage system such as leach lines or drain wells.
An engineered septic system is a solution to a problem. Some properties have very limited space, poor draining soil, or high ground water issues that would cause septic problems if the system is not engineered to account for these factors.
